match report under 12 Boys Sutherland vs. Barcelona FC
22-Oct-08

by Cathy Watts

The game started well with Aidan, Nathan, Kyle, Cameron and Chris opening the game. The boys were making a strong start – defending well and pushing hard to find gaps in Barcelona's defense.

However, a goal in the fifth minute by the other team temporarily shook their confidence, until the boys pushed back with Kyle, Cameron, Nathan and Jordan all having shots on goal.

Chris was kept busy in goals making some tremendous saves.

We were one nil down at half time but little did we know how exciting the second half of the game was to be.

The boys were working hard to get on level terms when Aidan got taken out by one of the biggest twelve year olds I have ever seen. Then our opponents tucked away two early goals but the boys did not loose hope or composure culminating in our first goal by Nathan.

Barcelona responded quickly with their fourth goal- so we were 4 – 1 down and things seemed a bit grim, but never fear the boys still had something in the tank with a great team effort leading to a goal by James, then another by Cameron.

So the score was looking better 4-3 down.

The team lifted and so did the supporters; we were certainly still in this game. The boys pushed forward, Addison and AJ working hard to be first to the ball. Then Barcelona scored goal number 5. It was so close and so exciting.

Nathan scored goal number 4 for Sutherland and what a perfect goal it was! Excitement was mounting as Nathan scored a hat trick with his third goal for the game with a penalty shot leaving us with a credible 5 all draw.

Well done boys! You played well. It’s not easy to be down by 4-1 and come out with a draw. I think I can attest for all the parents that it was a very exciting and intense game. Thanks also to Lee and Rod for the continued support of the boys.
