Match Report Under 13s girls Sutherland vs. Parramatta Blues
13-Nov-08

by Peter Ellis

This game was a opportunity to play one of the teams in the top 5, the Parramatta Blueberries. We decided to hypothetically concede two goals to the opposition before we took to the court.

The opening period saw the Blueberries attacking and we were unable to get out of our half or hold possession. Jessica was very busy in goals but eventually was beaten and that made the hypothetical score "3-0" against us.

Bronte started making some breaks down the left flank and was rewarded with a goal ("3-1"). Natalie was very strong at the back and the scoring opportunities dried up for the Blueberries. Taylor and Mikhaela started dominating the mid court and soon Morgan had scored. Now we were "3-2" down.

The half time talk was all about keeping possession and finding another goal to level the "scores" (now were are not 2-1 up we are 3-2 down).

Kirrily's goal did just that when play resumed with a top spinning low shot. Natalie beat two players and smashed the ball at the goal, only to see it hit the post and come back. We didnt rest and kept attacking, so did the Blueberries.

They hammered our goal but thanks to some great saves from Player of the Match Morgan only netted one goal. Our intensity was at 100% for the entire match. We came off the court "4-3" down but we all soon realised (although not all at the same time) that the actual score was a 3-2 win for Sutherland.

From this experiment the players learned that they could play with 100% intensity for the whole game and not relax when in the lead. Taylor, Natalie, and Morgan stayed back to help out the G16 girls team.

Well done to all the girls and we look forward to seeing you step up against Northern Tigers at Thornleigh this coming weekend.
